Last night I saw her post on fb ... and her marimo grow big!!!
I was so jealous!
So, I decided to grow my "marimo" today.
A tiny marimo and a tiny glass jar
My marimo is lying on my palm ... as you can see, it is very very tiny 0.5cm!!!
Left is also given by Bellis .. that bottle contains Star-Shaped Sand Grains from Okinawa.
CARE (wikipedia.org)
- Domestic "marimo" grow in tap water at room temperature as long as the water is changed every one or two weeks. Best to leave overnight due to the chlorine content in the tap water.
- The marimo can be placed in the refrigerator (not the freezer!) in the hot weather (above 25 degree) but does not survive freezing.
- Photosynthesis occurs in normal household lighting, otherwise, indirect sunlight since the marimo is adapted for low light conditions only.
- If the marimo green colour turns brownish it may recover without intervention, otherwise a very minimal amount of salt can be added as a suggested remedy
Wow. that's so tiny and cute, makes me want one :) low maintenance helps too, lol

Yeah, you can check out the photos of marimo at flickr. They are so cute!!!However, my friend said marimo grows very, very slowly. like 3mm per year. well it's
half a year now, so 1.5 mm. like non-existent growth!!!!
